A Salvadoran man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to injuring a Border Patrol agent while he and other unauthorized immigrants were being pursued on a ranch near Laredo.

Rigoberto Torres-Gomez, 29, admitted he accelerated his truck and struck the agent on his wrist and left side during the incident almost a year ago. The agent, who was on foot, shot Torres-Gomez in the chest. Both were hospitalized.

Torres-Gomez faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine at his April 29 sentencing on a charge of assaulting a federal agent.
