Overnight: George Lopez — 'Tall Dark & Chicano'

By Hector Saldaña - Express-News
consafos12:17 PM
Get over it you crybabies! George told it like it was/is with a great understanding of dynamics in our culture. It's about time a Chicano told it like it is: UNAFRAID! He told the truth that many Latinos are thinking. Cut too close to home? Then do something about it instead of just sniveling that your feelings are hurt! He has courage, humor and good food on his side! QUE VIVA LA RAZA!

I am so disappointed! George Lopez was one of my favorite comedians, but I can't say that anymore. He went too far with his political views. He came off as a hater; a hater of everything that was not Hispanic. San Antonio is the wrong place to tried to divide Anglos and Hispanics. Our cultures have been blended for years. What is the deal about La Vernia? I live in La Vernia and I don't have a clue as to what he was referring to.

I am a person that seldom laughs or smiles. I am not crazy only a serious minded person. He never will make me laugh unless he jumps from the Grand Canyon and maybe just maybe I'll smile. I don't think he'll do it, so I will continue to not smile and he'll continue telling his dumb racial jokes.

I just saw the show last nite and his stuff was nutrageous out the ying-yang. I laughed so hard I squiffed one all over proud_apetive!

Ok, folks, look at the definition of the word comedy in Wikipedia; I think George hit on all cylinders when it comes to the meaning of comedy. If you want to call him racist, so be it, but look at what Richard Pyror did in his comedy as well as Lenny Bruce. We're all adults, you make choices, if you don't like his comedy, don't go or watch his shows, it's that simple. I think this thread should be put to rest as it's getting convoluted with everyone getting offended. Hey, we all knew his brand of humor from his past shows, if it's too hot, get out of the kitchen. You can't please everyone when it comes to race, fuggetaboutit. See you at the next show....or not.

g-lo is funny. politics are a joke...making them funny. if you don't like him, don't watch or type/say anything about him. stop being so conservative and afraid.
joey2407092:18 PM
I think all of you that criticize the "show" are idiots. And how can you say he's a coconut just because he's actually done something with his life? Yeah, it's funny to talk about anglo's...but hey idiots, he talks about EVERYONE!!! If given the chance to make something out of yourselves...oh wait a minute...WE ALL HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY...you'd move out of the "hood" too. Give me a break
The Shadow2:08 PM
The guy is racist.
brockman1:12 PM
dang! George was racist at the show to white people and afterward, i got beat up by a bunch of meskins...I called them greasy taco eaters and they all beat me up. i blame him.
YQue12:42 PM
Holy sh*t! The guy's a comedian who used current events as comedic fodder and you fools want to say he's "political!" For those of you who were unhappy about the alleged "racist" comments about whites, I'm sure you were the first ones to let out a guffaw or two when he slammed on Latinos for our shortcomings, weren't you? It's okay when the status quo remains, but you get your panties in a twist when the tables are turned. Get a life!
rbowling12:02 PM
Mr. Lopez has become political because now is the time for all progressives to stand up and make a difference. The republican party has made fools of all who have supported it, because all they care about is their own power. God bless American and God bless George Lopez!

I have been a fan of George for many years, but hes getting to political we went to get laughs not politics....also we were up front and you could really see him shaking...his hands were shaking a lot and through out the whole show..no it wasnt nerves..I think he is sick or something..It was real bad and distracted me alot...Get well Soon George.

George slammed Kay Bailey Hutchinson but if he would of done his homework he would of know that Ms. Hutchinson fought VERY HARD for Kelly to remain open and keep all those jobs. If my memory serves me correctly Kelly's majority work popualtion was Mexican. She most likely did not vote for Sotomayor because she did not feel she was right for the job, not because she was Hispanic.
inmyopinion11:38 AM
nt82 Give me a break! I am Mexican and was insulted and embarressed by George's show. It is because of Mexicans,oh excuse me I'll bet your are "chicano" with this attitude that creates the riducule you receive. I am very proud to be a Mexican with very strong Mexican roots.Too bad that we have to deal with your "feel sorry for me attitude". So pull your pants up off your knees, put your cap on straight, wear a shirt that fits, I'll bet you will not only feel better about yourself but others will feel better toward you. P.S. I'll bet anything that Judge Sotomayor would also be embarrassed.

FIRE123- John Mayer?!?! Seriously!! People need to think about things before they say them or at least know facts! It's Bill Maher that has a political show on HBO! Goodness!
Jesse11:17 AM
I love the "F" word. It has so many meanings, but even this performance was too much for me. I like Lopez but he was too vulgar.
FIRE12310:08 AM
He is not a racist. His comedy is funny, but needs to keep politics out of show. if he wants to do a political show go to HBO and get one like John Mayer, then he can slam or praise all the politians or bills he wants.
