Free dinners a Jimenez family tradition since 1972 in N. Texas

Raul Jimenez started his free Thanksgiving dinners in 1972 in Fort Worth to recognize senior citizens who might not have a place to celebrate the holiday. Jimenez, a Dallas native who owned a restaurant in Fort Worth, moved the event to San Antonio in 1979.

The first dinner here was a big event, feeding several thousand, but it was not quite the grand-scale meal that it is today. Here's a look at the first dinner compared to last year's meal.
