Rosita moved to “Sesame Street” from her native Mexico in 1991, becoming its first Hispanic Muppet resident.

Her fondness for mixing Spanish and English while speaking and her love for giving “abrazos” have made Rosita a fan favorite.

Rosita, who’ll turn five (in Muppet years) next month, talked to Conexión about her time on “Sesame Street,” her love of music and how Oscar the Grouch doesn’t always live up to his name. Here’s some of what Rosita (voiced by Carmen Osbahr) had to say:
Lots of celebrities have visited ‘Sesame Street.’ Who are some of your favorites?

“There are so many... I had lots of fun with Paul Rudd. Do you know him? He pretended to be Prince Charming. Can you believe it? It was so funny... Ricky Gervais made my belly hurt I laughed so hard.”

What was it like singing with Gloria Estefan when she visited?

“I was in awe. She’s so nice and fun to sing with. She speaks Spanish. Did you know that? Her whole family came back to visit me and my family. I like them so much.”

You play guitar and love to sing. Do you come from a musical family?

“I’m Latina. Of course my family loves music. We always sing and dance. I love the drums, the guitar. Music is fun.”

Do you speak more Spanish or English? Which do you prefer?

“I like them both, but Spanish is my first language. I speak Spanish at home with my family. On ‘Sesame Street,’ I speak mostly English. Maria and Luis speak Spanish with me, too.”
