Submissions may include scholarly articles, short stories, poetry, essays, interviews with conjunto artists, or any other written work on the subject of conjunto music. Submissions are being accepted through March 1. Entrants whose works are accepted into the publication will be notified.

Historic smokestacks ‘Go Red’
The historic smokestacks at the Alamo Quarry Market ‘Go Red’ for the month of February in support of the ‘Go Red for Women’ partnership with the American Heart Association, Alamo Quarry Market officials recently announced in a press release.
The smoke stacks have been illuminated at night with red lights since Feb. 1.
The American Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign seeks to educate the public that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, Hispanic women are more likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than Caucasian women.
Supporters of the efforts to raise awareness about the effects of heart disease in women are encouraged to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, Feb. 5, by wearing articles of red clothing.

Donation made to Hispanic Chamber
San Antonio business leader Max Navarro, founder of Operational Technologies Corporation (OpTech), presented the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) with a $50,000 gift on behalf of OpTech and its other founding partners, Dr. Wayne Shore and Dr. Lynda de la Viña, at the Hispanic Chamber’s 81st Annual Gala held on Jan. 29.
