By Christopher Sherman - Associated Press

McALLEN — A Border Patrol agent in Texas has shot a suspected unauthorized immigrant after a scuffle in a convenience store.

Authorities did not immediately make clear whether the man was armed.

Border Patrol spokesman John Lopez said the agent chased the man into a store in McAllen on Wednesday morning after a group of men ran from a vehicle the agent was pursuing.

Lopez said the immigrant fought the agent's attempts to detain him inside the store and the agent "found it necessary to shoot to stop the altercation."

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot in the abdomen. His condition was not immediately known.

The agent was unharmed. His identity was not released.

"Mike K 3:00 PM Hmmmm.....just trying to remember history as to how everyone got here to this country.......were our ancestors invited with special 'papers'.." Well, yes, as a matter of fact, Mike, when my ancestors came here from Germany in 1763, they processed as required through His Majesty's Customs Offices, and were granted (under British law) legal entry papers to the colony of Penn's Woods (now Pennsylvania). And then they learned to speak proper English so their subsequent generations wouldn't be locked into working as hotel maids and lawn mowers.

Calling an illegal alien an "Undocumented Immigrant" is like calling a drug pusher an "Unlicensed Pharmacist."
