After 35 years, S.A.'s Guillermo Lozano still in good voice

Audiences will likely recognize Guillermo Lozano's voice from his years pitching products in both local and national spots.

The Spanish-language voiceover actor has spent the past 35 years working in commercials and promotional spots for the U.S. Army, McDonald's, H-E-B and other businesses.

“They keep calling me so they must like what I do,” says Lozano, whose latest work can be heard in a Spanish-language spot for Blue Bell ice cream.

In the spot, Lozano encourages viewers to indulge in ice cream and reminisce about childhood memories associated with the frozen treat.

An English-language version of the spot can be seen on local airwaves. The Spanish-language version featuring Lozano's voice stars local actors Abel Martinez and Nico Lopez, who play the same character at different ages.

Shot in San Antonio about six months ago, the spot is currently showing in South Florida markets, where the Brenham-based ice creamery began selling its products earlier this year.

In the commercial, Lopez sits on the front porch of a house eating ice cream. At the end of the spot, an elderly man sits on the same porch eating ice cream.

The spot is set to begin airing locally this summer.

Lozano, a former program director at KCOR radio here, says he was a bit surprised to get the call for the Blue Bell commercial. At 77, the former law student who left the radio business to pursue voiceover acting has been able to make a living with his craft without leaving San Antonio, where he's lived since 1954.

“I guess they like my voice,” Lozano says humbly. “I keep getting work so they must like something I'm doing.”
